Just last Sunday I was cutting the grass
When out of nowhere came this woman & she asked me
If I remembered her & she called me by name
Her hair looked different, but her eyes hadn't changed
It took a moment for my heart to unwind
Seemed that the ages had caught up with my mind
Before the words could even form on my lips
I'm pretty sure they came out something like this
---Chorus---
Oh I loved Lisa a long time ago
And you're the memory I can't outgrow
Old winds blow strong and young trees sway
But first loves, they never fade away
---------------------
We'd gone steady through those awkward years
Long wet kisses and teenage fears
Special moments from a special time
Not forgotten, we just left them behind
So we stood there in silence, then we spoke for a while
We shared a hug & she turned & she smiled
It was then I remembered what I wanted to say
In quite stillness as she drove away, I said
--Repeat Chorus--
--Bridge--
Late that evening as I went to bed
My wife kissed me and she softly said
Those were special times that you both shared
Her coming here shows she cared
--------
--2nd Chorus--
I said, yes that was a long time ago
Betty, here's something that I'm sure you know
I loved Lisa, I think she loved me too
But oh my little puppy, not as much as I love you
--Repeat chorus--
